How to send an SMS with Glofox?

In light of the recent developments around COVID-19, you may be wondering the best to inform your clients of changes during this difficult time. You can send Push notifications to anyone with the Member App, or you can send an automated Message (Email). However, SMS has the power to reach more people in a quicker time frame as SMS has an average open rate of 98%.

How to send an SMS from the dashboard

There are multiple ways for you to send SMS messages to your clients. The options available to you will depend on the Glofox plan you are on.

How to send an SMS to a specific client

To send an SMS to a specific client, follow these steps; 

  1. From the dashboard, click the 'Manage' tab and then the 'Clients' tab or use 'Global Search'
  2. Search for the client you want to send a message too 
  3. Once selected, click the 'Send Message' button located on the top of their profile
  4. A pop-up will appear with an option to send a 'Notification' or a 'SMS', click 'SMS' 
  5. Compose your SMS and then click 'Send Message'

How to use the 'Client' filters to send targeted SMS to a group of clients

The most valuable way to send an SMS is by using the 'Leads' and 'Client' filters to target specific groups of people. 

For example;

  • You might want to notify all of your with a class booking in the next two weeks about that their class has been moved online, or that it has been postponed or canceled
  • You might want to message all of your active members who haven't attended any sessions in the last week, to let them know you'll be offering some at-home workouts, or maybe you just want to let them know that you'll be opening your doors again soon and to check out your latest offering 

Whatever your reasoning, you can easily send an SMS to a filtered list by following these steps;

  1. From the Glofox dashboard, go to the 'Manage' tab
  2. From here click on the 'Leads' or 'Clients' tab 
  3. Click '+Add Filters' and choose the filters you want to apply to create your SMS list
  4. You can add as many filters as you like by clicking the '+Add Filters' again after setting the first one
  5. Click the 'Actions' drop-down
  6. Once selected, click the 'Send Message' button located on the top of their profile
  7. A pop-up will appear with an option to send an 'SMS'
  8. Compose your SMS and then click 'Send Message'

How to set up and send automated SMS messages

An automated SMS can be sent to a 'Lead' when they create an account with your gym/studio. 

You can personalize the 'Welcome SMS' sent to the client, allowing you to ensure that the 'Leads' first interaction with you matches your tone and brand.

How many characters can I use in 1 SMS

1 SMS credit = One 160 character message to 1 client

If you send a message that is over 160 characters, this will deduct more than one SMS credit from your account. The 160 characters limit includes special characters, and some special characters count as more than 1 standard character. If you use a special character you will be limited to 67 characters instead of 160. (For example, an emoji is an example of a special character) Find out more information on this here.

Similarly, if you send a bulk message to multiple clients (e.g. 10) this will deduct 1 credit for each message sent to each individual client (e.g. 10 SMS credits will be deducted for sending a 160 character message to 10 clients).

GDPR guidelines for EU customers

If you are a European business you must ensure you are complying with the EU's new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If you are sending an SMS intended for marketing purposes, click 'This is a Marketing Message'. With this option selected, only clients that have opted in for marketing messages will receive this SMS.

Your client would have been prompted to opt-in during sign-up. You can edit this setting from the dashboard if, for example, a client asks you to change their settings in person by going to their profile and clicking the 'Details' tab
