Your members can now unlock Kisi-controlled doors directly from the Glofox app or your branded app, without downloading a separate Kisi app.
An Unlock door button appears on the Home and Schedule screens. Members tap the button, hold their phone near the reader, and the door unlocks.
This guide explains what you need, how to set up single-app door access, and how members use it.
If you are new to Kisi, start with Integrating Access Control with Kisi to set up your hardware, then return to this guide.
Before you begin
Make sure you have:
- Kisi reader hardware installed at your entrance. This feature is available on the Boost and Elite plans.
- Admin access to your Glofox Dashboard.
- Members with an active Glofox membership type that is mapped in Kisi.
- A unique email address for each member that matches in Glofox and Kisi.
Shared or duplicate email addresses—for example, family members using one email address—will prevent access.
Choose your setup path
If you are new to Kisi
You will need Kisi hardware, including a controller, reader, and electronic lock, installed by Kisi. You will also need a Kisi organization.
Kisi manages the physical installation. Once your hardware is installed, follow the steps in Set up single-app door access.
If you already use Kisi
You can skip the hardware installation steps. Make sure your Glofox integration is configured in your Kisi Dashboard, then follow the steps in Set up single-app door access.
If your members currently use the separate Kisi app, they can switch to unlocking doors from the Glofox app or branded app once single-app access is enabled.
Set up single-app door access
- Set up your location in Glofox and make a note of your Branch ID, also called your Location ID.
- Email Glofox Support to request the single-app integration and ask for your Location ID to be allowlisted.
- In your Kisi Dashboard, using Kisi admin or delegated access, add the Glofox integration:
- Choose Glofox as the integration type.
- Add a configuration using your Branch ID.
- Map your Glofox membership types to a Kisi group.
- Enable the integration.
- If you want credit-pack or Pay-As-You-Go members to sync, enable Bookings for the configuration.
- Map the branch to a Kisi place so unlocks are recorded as check-ins.
For detailed instructions, see Kisi's Set up Glofox integration guide, which also includes a short video.
- If you use a branded standalone app, complete the additional app-store requirements below.
Setting up a branded standalone app
Door access cannot be added through an over-the-air update. A new version of your app must be released to the App Store and Google Play, and your members must update the app before they can use single-app unlock. The Glofox team handles the technical app-store requirements for your branded build.
Optional: stop the Apple Wallet card appearing On iPhone, the Apple Wallet card may appear when a member taps Unlock. This does not block unlocking, and access works normally. If you would prefer the card not to appear, you can request Apple Wallet Pass Presentation Suppression from Apple.
For instructions, see How to configure your standalone branded app to enable the Kisi Apple Pass.
How members unlock the door
- Open the Glofox app or branded app and tap Unlock door on the Home or Schedule screen.
- Allow the requested permissions:
- iPhone: Bluetooth and Location
- Android: NFC
- Hold the phone close to the reader—approximately 5 inches or 12.7 cm away.
The app displays “You’re connected!” when the phone reaches the reader. This confirms the connection, but members should still check the reader or door to confirm that it has opened.
Limit the number of devices a member can use
By default, there is no limit on the number of devices a member can use to unlock the door.
If you want to prevent members from sharing one membership across multiple phones, you can enable a single-device restriction. This option is separate from the standard setup and is disabled by default.
Turn on the device limit
Contact Glofox Support, or your Customer Success Manager, to enable the device limit for your location.
How the device limit works
- The default limit is three devices per member.
- When a member reaches the limit, a new device displays a “device limit reached” message and cannot unlock the door until the member's registered devices are reset.
- Devices that the member was already using before the limit was enabled continue to work.
- You can reset a member's registered devices so they can add a new device. If you are unsure how to do this, contact Glofox Support.
- This setting is separate from Kisi's primary device setting in the Kisi Dashboard. If both settings are enabled, both rules apply. Turn off Kisi's primary device setting if you only want to use the Glofox device limit.
Things to keep in mind
- Members must tap Unlock door each time and hold their phone close to the reader. The door cannot be unlocked from a distance, and it does not unlock automatically in the background.
- On iPhone, the Apple Wallet card may appear during unlocking until Apple approves Pass Presentation Suppression for your branded app.
- Each member needs a unique email address that matches their Glofox account. Family or child accounts sharing a parent's email address are not supported.
- When you create a new membership type in Glofox, add it to your Glofox integration configuration in Kisi so those members receive access.
- If a membership becomes locked—for example, because of a failed payment—access is revoked immediately unless you set a grace period in Kisi. See Overdue Invoice Access Blocking.
- Credit-pack and Pay-As-You-Go members only receive access around the time of their booked class, and only if Bookings is enabled in the Kisi configuration.
- At busy times, such as month-end, it can take up to approximately 20 minutes for a new or updated membership to sync to Kisi.
